You’ve gotta do what you love!! This statement has been instilled in me since the beginning. Makes sense more than you can imagine. If you don’t love it, then its a stepping stone. If you embrace the passion, then there is no limit as to the potential this statement. What happens when the passion gets clouded by monotony? You need a meeting, an event, something to spark the passion again. Thank you, Idea-Sandbox for sparking the creativity and desire to embrace the passion once again.
Maybe you are focusing on the finances instead of your passion. Think and act from your heart rather than your head and I think you will find that the financials will work out. If you start with the financials, your passion will be stymied. If you focus on lack, that is exactly what you will get.
Brad… thanks for your kind words… and I’m psyched to hear that you found a monotony-breaker! And I’m especially glad that Idea Sandbox helped. Keep in touch will ya? I love the dialogue!
Sara… I know what you mean… I’m in the same camp as Bob.
I once asked a co-worker - while the two of us were in the marketing trenches during a particularly ugly work scene - how he could stay so level-headed about work? It seemed never to get to him.
He explained to me that it wasn’t work that defined who he was. His job was his job. His pride was at home… his family… his personal interests. These were his passions…
It was a moment of clarity for me… level-set my thinking.
From that point on, I didn’t let my employer define who I was…
Unfortunately, in our cynical world a phrase like “follow your passion” is often tossed aside as fluffy thinking. If you’re finding yourself falling into that camp… check out the book “Change the Way You See Everything: Through Asset-Based Thinking” by Kathy Cramer and Hank Wasiak.
(In fact, I am such a raving fan of their book and philosophy, I sought them out and helped them launch their second book!)

Can I play devil’s advocate for a second? What if what you “love” doesn’t pay the bills, and couldn’t/wouldn’t for the foreseeable future??? :)
