“It’s harder to do the right thing for the moment, but turns out to be easier after all.”
My grandfather wrote this to me in 1985 when I was 16. I’m certain the context of his message had to do with girls and sex… Looking at his words again, twenty-plus-years later, I find his words offer a master strategy for success.
There have been plenty of times in my career where I’ve witnessed co-workers taking shortcuts… trying to take the easy path. I watched from my grindstone wishing I was as clever.
However, 9 out of 10 times… the shortcuts taken during the planning or execution… required twice the effort to correct after the fact.
In the end it is easier just to do it right the first time.
“A Cup of Joe (Williams)” represents advice I received in letters from my grandfather back in the 80s. I didn’t appreciate the advice at the time (what kid does?), but I see now the life (and business) lessons he shared. Read more Cup Of Joe.
